WARNING: OLD AND BAD GAME

Working on trying to make it better, though I am mainly focused on the 3D version.

WASD to move, M to go to the menu.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE WHOLE DESCRIPTION!

A set of infinitely generated, ever-changing, never-the- same, confusing rooms to explore. Whenever you hear anything, be careful. It definitely heard you.

Food and beverages can be found here and there on all levels, and are required for survival.

Increasing the difficulty of the game will increase the speed of creatures, the chance of creatures spawning, and decrease maximum thirst and hunger. Practice mode removes enemies and has the same hunger and thirst as normal mode. Suggested by jlmcmurc1971.

Make sure you keep moving on the later levels, as Seekers will devour still targets.

LEVEL 0: Generally people who land in the backrooms will land here. Full of yellow wallpaper and damp carpet. Not too dangerous, but be careful. You might enter Level 1.

LEVEL 1: More dangerous  than Level 0, and you have a small chance of landing here. Consists of concrete walls and tile floors. When in the dark, the creatures will be much more difficult to see. When it is dark, you must rely on audio cues to dodge enemies.

LEVEL 2: Consists of dark, long hallways. The darkness of Level 2 makes it very dangerous. Either run, or hide. You may be able to find a torch here, as some explorers have died there. Torches only last a few rooms before burning out. You also may find repellant here. Repellent can be used once, and only one canister can be held at a time. It will defend you from 1 monster attack. This is one of the easier levels to escape.

LEVEL 3: Widely considered to be the most dangerous of the 4 main levels, You will likely die here. You may be able to find torches and repellant here.  This level consists of narrow, dark tiny concrete hallways with pipes of mysterious black sludge and colonies of grubs. The sludge leaking out of pipes tastes less than desirable, but it will keep you hydrated while you're there, as nothing else to drink will be found on Level 3.

LEVEL 4: If you can survive Level 3, you will turn up here. Looks and feels like an office building, but is way larger. Not many creatures live here, and it is the safest of the early backrooms. Level 0 is slightly more dangerous than this. Many lost explorers have settled here, and you are likely to find some. This is your end goal.

CREATURE LIST

Phantoms - Will chase you at a slow pace. Very easy to avoid. Spawns in level 0. Has the appearance of a red and light-grey circle.

Followers - Will charge twice at average speed in your direction. Relatively average to avoid. Spawns in levels 1 and 2. Has the appearance of a purple and red star.

Seekers - Will charge quickly to your position without much warning. Relatively difficult to avoid. Spawns in levels 2 and 3. Has the appearance of a black and yellow circle.

good game.kep updating. I love  games like these

Can you add an explorer mode where you explore levels 0-3 by teleporting there and you don't have to worry about hunger thirst or creatures?

I died from thirst... in level 4.

lol. I thought i fixed that but i guess not xD

there is a bug where you can't return to the menu in level 4.

Hmm I will see if I can fix that at some point. In the mean time, just refresh the page.

Can you please add an easy mode where there are no creatures no matter what level you are on but hunger and thirst are still important?

A good idea, I will try to add that when I have free time. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Thanks. Let me know when it is finished.

Yo I added the mode! I hope it's what you wanted. I also added the ability to go straight back to the menu with M, but that part might be a bit buggy.

(1 edit)

Can you also make it so that in practice mode the creatures only appear if you have repellant?

yeah!

Hey! I tried the game like you asked. Nice little game. Not sure what you have in store in development, but this game could be really good with some more work. A how to play screen with explanations maybe? And a skippable intro like before in From The Dark. Good stuff, looking forward to more development.
